CLA Tigers win first ever football playoff game!!

Although the Tigers were seeded #1, and because of being decimated by athletes who could not maintain a 2.0 GPA or adhere to the OMSD Student Code of Conduct, the CLA Flag Football Team once again assumed the role of underdogs going into their first ever OMSD playoff game.  After having nearly 30 team members on the team in late August, the Tigers made the trip to their pseudo home game at Wiltsey Middle School, with only 15 players.  And they would need every single player to continue their Cinderella season.

Although at kick off time the sky was  a pristine, Dodger blue, the omnious dark clouds would soon cover the entire playing field and within in minutes of the opening minutes of the game, the sky opened up and the majority of the game was played in the rain.  Even though the players and most of the under 18 crowd reveled in the opportunity to play in the rain, the conditions did take a toll on the amount of dropped passes on both sides.  5th grade stand out and CLA grid iron phenom, Adrian Gutierrez dropped a sure touch down and an interception because of the continuous down pour that made the football game take on a sureal event like atmosphere.  The Tigers finally got on the score board when star 7th grade football player, Rian Roy, fielded a punt and went nearly 40 yards for a touchdown.  The Tigers added a  touchdown scoring drive in the final minutes of the game when 'Kid Wonder' 8th grade Tiger QB, Ricardo 'Ricky' Sainz,  took  a misdirection, play action, boot leg left, all the way in for a 30 yard touch down.  Ricky capped off the days scoring by converting on a 2 point running play into the end zone.

The offense may have looked like Hollywood movie stars, but the CLA defense lead by Rian Roy stole the show.   The entire team contributed to the second shut out, in as many tries, of the Edison football team.  Tristan Sanchez, Miguel Novoa, Nestah Arredondo, Jose Garcia Zaragoza, Michael Mata, Alexa Reynoso, Samantha Abdelgawad, Jordy Haro, Austin Alvarez, Eric Marin, Jasmine Jacinto, Adrian Martinez, Ricky Sainz, and Adrian Gutierrez all played crucial roles in securing The Central Language Academy's FIRST EVER football playoff victory!!

CLA will play another home game on the road at a place to be determined against what appears to be Oaks Middle School on Thursday, October 8 at 3:30 p.m.

Where ever the game may be played, we hope to see all of our faithfull fans in attendance!!

Go Tigers!  One Team-CLA!
